DeVos Institute Launches Los Angeles Strategic Planning Intensive

February 29, 2016

Five Los Angeles cultural organizations have been selected to participate in a strategic planning intensive led by the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the University of Maryland.

Between March and November, DeVos Institute leadership and consultants will develop strategic plans in close coordination with staff and board leadership of participating organizations. The selected organizations are:

  1. Arts for LA
  2. Cornerstone Theater Company
  3. Debbie Allen Dance Academy
  4. Japanese American Cultural & Community Center
  5. Self Help Graphics & Art

This new initiative is made possible with the support of the University of Maryland.

Throughout the strategic planning process, the Institute will work closely with organizations to define specific goals and the steps required to achieve them. In addition to actionable strategies tailored to each organization, the Institute will provide detailed implementation and financial plans that outline timelines and costs, as well as the projected benefits of the plan.

The Institute will also lead two roundtables for participating organizations’ staff and board leadership that address the planning and implementation processes. The first session, to be held in March 2016, examines the roles of planning committees in the development of a successful strategic plan. The second roundtable is scheduled in March 2017, four months following the completion of the planning process. This session will reflect on challenges and successes of the implementation process.

The five participating organizations were selected through a competitive application process open to Los Angeles County organizations.
